The 6’4, 275 pound 3-star left tackle, Owen Reineck Commits to Tulane University

The VIP Crew: Congratulations on all your success. Major congratulations on

committing to Tulane. How is this offseason treating you?

Reineck: It’s going good. Just focused on gaining weight and maintaining my speed,

while getting stronger at the same time.

The VIP Crew: I have been watching some of your videos. It looks like you have really

been putting in some hard work.

Reineck: Yes sir! I’ve been trying. I’m about 275 right now. I gained about 30 pounds

since last season, so I’m looking forward to using that this upcoming season.

The VIP Crew: What are the expectations for your senior season both personally and

as a unit?

Reineck: Team wise, we just got a new coach down at Fairhope, Caleb Ross. We’re

looking forward to having a pretty good season. Everything changed this year, they split

the private and public, so it should be interesting to see how that all plays out. I’m

excited and looking forward to see what we can accomplish.

The VIP Crew: What has the relationship been like with Coach Ross so far?

Reineck: It’s pretty good. There is another guy on my team, Gus Faulkner, who is

committed to Tulane. There hasn’t been any controversy or anything like that. Everyone

has been on the same side and working towards one goal, which is having a winning

season.

The VIP Crew: You split sides playing both offense and defense. Is that something you

expect to continue under the new regime, or will you be delegated to one side?

Reineck: As of right now, I’m mainly focusing on the offense. I might spot play on

defense, but the focus is to keep me fresh and not be completely gassed and maybe

not putting out 100% of my full potential. Also, I’m going to be playing offense at Tulane,

so we want to develop more skills that way.

The VIP Crew: Do you have a preference?

Reineck: Mostly, it’s whatever the team needs at the time. I’ve grown up loving defense,

but obviously offense is where I’m best at.

The VIP Crew: You are my type of football player, mean, aggressive, violent, with a

nonstop motor. Where does that come from?

Reineck: I have a great trainer who I started training with when I was in 7 th grade. He

played for Ole Miss and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rick Razzano. He instilled that

mindset in me from the get-go, relentless, not stopping until the echo of the whistle

blows.

The VIP Crew: He taught you well because there is a play on your highlights where you

block a kid 30 yards off the ball, and you don’t let up until the play is over. I’m sure that’s

one of your favorites.

Reineck: Yes sir! He was talking a little trash before that play, so it kind of felt good to

kind of do that.

The VIP Crew: Was it important for you to have your commitment out of the way before

the season started?

Reineck: That was very important for me. It’s kind of the reason I did it so early, so I

could lock in on this season, and having the best senior season I can without worrying

about the uncontrollable things like what’s going to happen, transfer portal, injuries or

whatnot.

The VIP Crew: You also throw shot put on the track team, and you hold a school record

in the event. How does that skillset translate onto the football field?

Reineck: I think it’s helped me a lot, just the explosiveness and being able to move

through the ring. As an offensive lineman, you have to kind of be a big ballerina,

spinning in a circle and heaving a shot put 52 feet helps with that.

The VIP Crew: What made Tulane University the next logical step in your football

journey?

Reineck: The main thing was the education. They value that very highly. It’s one of the

best schools you can attend in the country from an academic standpoint. I loved the

staff there. They seem like they are here to stay, not jumping around like some of the

recent news about other coaches leaving schools.

The VIP Crew: What does it mean to you to be named a 3-star athlete?

Reineck: You know, it’s a big honor and it happened very quickly. My recruitment

started and ended within 2 months. I committed to Tulane and it’s just been a great

experience. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

The VIP Crew: Does the ranking, the commitment, the attention bring pressure on you,

or does it fuel the fire?

Reineck: I mean, sure, there are some expectations there, but as you said, it also fuels

the fire. You don’t want to be rated a 3-star and then put bad film out there.

The VIP Crew: When you look at the things you were able to accomplish last season,

how do you improve and put even better footage out there?

Reineck: I gained a bunch of weight, and I want to show that I can still move and get

out there and dominate the line of scrimmage like I have been at a higher level and a

bigger weight.

The VIP Crew: Are there any games you have circled on your calendar or is the entire

schedule circled?

Reineck: Obviously, each game is a new challenge. We have some tough opponents

on our schedule. I think the last game of our season is Vigor and they have a Texas

commit, so that should be a pretty good matchup, I think.

The VIP Crew: Offensively, what you guys do at Fairhope, is it similar to what they do at

Tulane, or will there be a transitional curve there?

Reineck: The switch from high school to college is a big jump. With Coach [Cody]

Kennedy, they seem to like to develop athletes opposed to throwing them out as quickly

as they can. I think everyone has a developmental process and I’m looking forward to

what mine will be.

The VIP Crew: For anyone who isn’t familiar with your game or has never seen you

play until this season, what can they expect to see?

Reineck: I have a high motor, I finish through the whistle, I’m not gonna be one of these

people in your face trash talking. I’m going to do my job, show them who I am, and just

finish.

The VIP Crew: This will be the most important challenge of your career, coming from

Alabama and attending Tulane in New Orleans, after your first Louisiana Mardi Gras

experience, you’re going to have to come back to The VIP Crew, and tell us who has

the better Mardi Gras season.

Reineck: Alright, yeah… that should be exciting. I’m looking forward to experiencing all

of that there.

The VIP Crew: Best of luck to you during your senior season. I look forward to keeping

up with you and we definitely look forward to having you in the Big Easy. Is there

anything else you’d like to add before I let you go?

Reineck: Thank you for reaching out. I appreciate it.
