A closer look at 3x Grammy Nominated triplel threat: James Artissen

Who is James Artissen? At 10,000ft, one might narrow him down to a humble black ‘King’ that hails from Queens (NY)…. living his wildest dream… on a musical journey that started at the tender age of 16. Zoom in a little closer and that vision sketched as a still photo suddenly becomes a motion picture.

At only 33 years of age, James’ resume in the music industry places him in rare company. High level collaborations? Check. Top 10 Hit? Check. Grammy Nominations? Check. So, what could possibly be next? With talent this skillful, it’s literally anyone’s guess!

For every superstar there’s an untold story waiting to be told. In the case of James, you could see that story unfold from very early on. A pivotal moment during his childhood could be credited for laying his eventual path in life. A microphone gifted from his parents at a young age seemed to light a spark, serving as a superpower from the first time it was placed in his hands. Let James tell it; his confidence grew with every performance in front of the family at every gathering.

MEETING A LEGEND

The next piece to the puzzle came from a familiar face, yet an unfamiliar place. One regular afternoon in New York City, James’ Father told him to get dressed so they could go see a show. What James didn’t know was that this wasn’t just any show. It was an award acceptance for the greatest entertainer the music world has ever seen. The “King of Pop” himself – Michael Jackson! As if going to see MJ wasn’t enough, a young James ended up backstage in the green room where he not only met Michael but was blessed enough to have a few words with him. Somewhat awestruck, James didn’t remember the whole exchange, yet one sentence remained engrained in his brain. The “King of Pop” told James he’d be “great in music”!  In this very moment, a legend (in the making) was born!

Fate would never allow a reunion between James and Michael Jackson again, but the list of legends and hit makers that he would eventually work with certainly doesn’t lack. Meek Mill, Justin Bieber, 112, Big Gipp, Whodini, Tony Terry, and many more have shared a studio with James. If he has it his way, there's a few other key artist who could be next.

WISH LIST

When asked which talents in the industry he would love to work with, James didn’t waste time naming a few. The Weekend, Chris Brown, Miguel, Kanye West, Gorillaz, and Frank Ocean, made the list, among others. When you think of the diverse sound between that cast, it sheds light on just how dynamic James Artissen truly is as a talent, himself. To have the ability to write, produce, or sing along such talents is a blessing. One that James doesn’t take lightly.

A parting thought on the heels of James' conversation with Michael Jackson was a realization that in his soul he “always felt” he’d be a mogul and entertainer. Inspired by the likes of Q-Tip, Quincy Jones, Whitney Houston, and Babyface, it’s hard not to see him attain such success considering that his musical gifts paint the canvas with such a broad brush.

FOREVER HUMBLE

Despite his success, James remains humble. Under the radar, but above the rim. Humbleness aside, remember his name. There’s a strong chance something you vibe with on the radio real soon could be written, produced, or sung by this man! 3 Grammy Nominations, 2 billion+ streams, one goal: KEEP MAKING GREAT MUSIC!
